Staying downtown changes how a trip to Bariloche feels. Instead of waiting for a transfer, you step outside and you are already in town, with the lakefront a couple of minutes away and the mountain roads leaving from nearby streets.
The pages of a Bariloche itinerary usually mix town days and mountain days. From here both are practical: shops and restaurants are at street level, while Cerro Catedral, Otto Hill and Lago Gutiérrez are short trips that the tour desk can arrange the evening before.
The Civic Center, with its stone and timber buildings and the wide viewpoint over the lake, is two blocks from the inn. From there the downtown grid of shops, chocolate houses and restaurants runs in every direction, and Playa del Centro gives you a small stretch of shoreline without leaving town. Most guests find that the first evening is spent simply walking the streets nearby, because everything worth seeing in the centre falls inside a few blocks.
Otto Hill and Lago Gutiérrez both work as easy half-day outings, and Cerro Catedral is the main destination for skiing in winter and mountain walking in summer. Bariloche Airport sits east of the city; a shuttle service can be arranged for an extra charge, and car rental can be organised at reception for the days when you want to drive the Circuito Chico yourself rather than join a tour.
Public transit in Bariloche uses a rechargeable card system that confuses most first-time visitors, so the staff will explain where to buy the card and how to load it before your first bus. Taxis and remises are easy to call from reception. Please note that the inn has no parking of its own, which is why most guests here move on foot, by bus or by booked transfer rather than by car.
The tour desk books excursions and ski days, ski storage keeps equipment out of the room, and baggage storage covers the awkward hours around check-in and check-out when your flight and your room do not line up. Concierge help is available in English, Spanish and Portuguese, and the same people can suggest where to eat on a Sunday night or which viewpoint is worth the walk in bad weather.
